My American Dream

This is my first submission. Thought I'd give it a go as I couldn't find it
elsewhere. Bit unsure about the lyrics in places.

Capo 2nd Fret
FCGAmGFCG
F C F C
You used to be a one horse town but the pony went away,
F C Am G
Ended up in China 'cos they make it cheaper there they say,
F C Am G F
Now the store fronts all are empty and the factory is dead,
          F C Am G
And these streets I used to walk on, now they're just my bed

                Am G F
And I'm goin down... down... down
          C
I'm goin down

F C F C
Did a couple years at college but I just couldn't make it stick,
F C Am G
Had to come back here and help Mama 'cos Daddy left when she got sick,
F C Am G F
She worked everyday for nothin' until she turned sixty two,
            F C Am G
And on the same day that I buried her the bank folk closed on her house too

(Chorus)
F C G Am
It's my American dream and I've been all that I can be,
      G F C G
With nothin' left to lose at all I guess I'm free,
                  Am G F
It's my American dream... dream... dream
                  C
It's my American dream

F C F C
So I stand here at this (Not sure of word!) and smile as best I can,
        F C Am G
With a sign that says Jesus loves you but it's hard to think he gives a damn
F C Am G F
When they roll down their windows and put some spare change in my hand,
     F C Am G
But I'd give it all right back to just be looked at like a man,

               Am G F
And I'm goin down... down... down
          C
I'm goin down

(Solo)

F C F C
When it's cold I try the mission on night's like this I sleep outside,
        F C Am G
Under a bridge beside the interstate where I can hear those trucks roll by,
 F C Am G F
And imagine I'm inside one, just rollin' down the road,
       F C Am G
But I wake up just to realise that this place is now my home,

F C G Am
It's my American dream and I've been all that I can be,
      G F C G
With nothin' left to lose at all I guess I'm free,
F C G Am
'Cos my American dream disappeared in front of me,
          G F C G
And with nothin' left to lose at all I guess I'm free,

                  Am G F
It's my American dream... dream... dream
                  C
It's my American dream...
