Bird Cowboys Song

Intro
     E A
Now, ev'rybody knows the children's tale, 'bout that ugly ducklin' whose mama bailed
B E
left 'em for dead in a cruel world, all alone.
      E A
But I bet you didn't know what that birdy did next, that he hopped a train n' headed out west.
B E
Taught himself 'bout livin' life on the road.

Chorus
             A E
Well you can tell the folks in town, Bird Cowboy's come round!
        B E
Wearin' newt-skin boots n' a 22-teaspoon hat...
   A E
He rolls in without warnin', and he's gone before the mornin'.
B E
Ridin' on his trusty alley cat!

Verse
      E A
Was a quiet night 'cept for cricket song, the sun was low n' the shadows long,
        B E
when he rolled into Rico Seco with a score to settle.
       E A
Now he waddled on in to the town saloon, the band piped down and the gamblers crooned.
B E
Isn't ev'ryday you see a ducky packin' six-shootin' metal.

E A
Birdy didn't mind no sideways talk, n' he ordered himself a worm on the rocks,
        B E
then he held up a poster of a fella named Bily Bing.
    E A
The poster said, "WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE", n' he asked who'd seen Billy's rotten hide,
        B E
but the air got stale n' nobody said a thing...

E A
Then when he mosey'd on out the bar, he met a white-winged dove underneath the stars.
B E
She said, "Pleased to meet you, I'm Susie Brown."
 E A
"You ought to know, if yer gonna linger, Billy's got this place wrapped 'round his finger."
 B E
"If I were you, I'd go 'head and git on outta town."

E A
Before he could form a polite reply, he heard rumlin' hooves n' an awful cry,
   B E
n' in rode Big Bad Billy like the real McCoy.
E A
Billy hooted n' hollered at what he saw, Birdy stood firm and fixin' to draw,
B E
When he heard susie yellin', "LOOK OUT BEHIND, COWBOY!"

E A
He turned to find Billy's five-man-gang, all aimin' him down with pieces in hand,
B E
but when they started shootin', that Birdy just danced!
E A
Then he pulled his Colt out, lightning fast, fanned the hammer in a single pass,
   B E
n' struck all five of them back-shootin' crooks out flat.

   E A
He spun to face the man from the poster, n' before Billy's gun even cleared his holster,
    B E
the last birdy bullet flew clean through the outlaw's heart.
        E A
Then he waddled on up to Miss Susie, smitten, "If it weren't for you I'd be shredded chicken."
 B E
"Ya wanna make it even, buy me a drink to start."

    E A
But before she could blink he'd disappeared, left a letter that read,
               B E
"Susie dear, I thank you much and I think you're awful kind."
         E A
"But the truth is, life's been cruel to me. Whatever love I find turns tragedy."
     B E
"And all I know is to leave and be left behind."

          E A
So if you find yerself in an outlaw band, or a badman west of the Rio Grande,
             B E
you ought to fear the day El Patito Feo flies by...
          E A
'Cus they say the early bird gets the worm, but this bird comes late n' he brings the word.
B E
Loaded in a .45 Colt 'bout half his size!

Chorus
             A E
Well you can tell the folks in town, Bird Cowboy's come round!
        B E
Wearin' newt-skin boots n' a 22-teaspoon hat...
   A E
He rolls in without warnin', and he's gone before the mornin'.
B E E
Ridin' on his trusty alley cat!
